TSP Election MoS Candidate Interview

Candidate Interview - Daytime to Night

Running for the position of Minister of Security...

To enable complete impartiality, SPOT will provide all of the candidates with the same questions and provide their responses in the order in which they declared their intention to run for office...

SPOT: Please take a moment to introduce yourself to the members of The South Pacific…

Well, I'm Daytime to Night, this is my nation that I've had in the South Pacific for sometime. I started playing the game in 2007 under the nation 'Numero Capitan' and after ending up on every forum in this game I eventually settled on a few regions that I particularly enjoyed the communities of, AWP (my first region when I joined the game), The South Pacific where I enjoyed its originality and Europeia, which was a more politically involved region that I already had a good friend in.
SPOT: What are your motivations in running for office?..

Since Southern Bellz became delegate there has been an absence in this area and I'm well suited to fill it, something I had been thinking and was confirmed to me when I was nominated for the role.

SPOT: What is your opinion on the current and historical performance of the Security and Intelligence Ministry?..

Some of the past Ministers are names I spent my early NS years following and viewing as NS legends, its a hard thing to follow on from but I'm starting from scratch again and I hope I can make something of the Ministry that the whole region can be proud of, because we should be.

SPOT: Are there any new initiatives that differentiate your campaign from your fellow candidates?..

As a person I like to use the ideas of others and sound my own off against others and create a co-ordinated plan of action in government, I guess I need the reassurance that others are thinking along the same lines as me. But I'm passionate about having a distinctive military in this region, and there are others who are trying to suggest a place for it in the context of NS. I'm not too interested in that, I won't be pigeonholing our military, I'll just be getting people involved in it and seeing what they would find to be fun things to do with our regional military, whilst also improving our ability to protect the region.
SPOT: And finally, if you could change anything in The South Pacific/Nationstates world, what would it be and why?..

I'd give Todd a shave, what could be more entertaining than a bald fox!

[Editor - So long as you don't go anywhere near the Badgers with that sort of attitude!.. ]

SPOT would like to thank Candidate Daytime to Night for taking the time to be interviewed and provide the electorate of The South Pacific with further insight into their campaign...

TSP Election MoJ Candidate Interview

Candidate Interview - Dyr Nasad

Running for the position of Minister of Justice...

To enable complete impartiality, SPOT will provide all of the candidates with the same questions and provide their responses in the order in which they declared their intention to run for office...

SPOT: Please take a moment to introduce yourself to the members of The South Pacific…

Well, I'm Dyr Nasad, I started playing NS in Dec 08, but didn't sign up on a forum until April 09. I've involved myself in the feeders, starting in TEP, where my first nation was founded. Later on, I joined the FRA and began defending..yeah, thats about it..

SPOT: What are your motivations in running for office?..
First, I hope that I will be an active member of the government. I chose this position in particular because, in most regions that I am a part of, I tend to become a part of the legislature. I want to try something different and look at the situation from a judicial point of view.

SPOT: What is your opinion on the current and historical performance of the Security and Intelligence Ministry?..

For quite some time, there did not seem to be an active ministry, especially considering one recent incident in which a nation got within 20 endos of the delegate. Currently there are not any candidates for the position, and hopefully that will change, because its proper functioning is an important part of the well-being of the community. If elected, I hope that I can work well with whoever holds the position.

SPOT: Are there any new initiatives that differentiate your campaign from your fellow candidates?..

I believe that I can bring in a much newer view than some of the old members of the region, but I also believe that I have had enough experience to perform the duties of this job well.

SPOT: And finally, if you could change anything in The South Pacific/Nationstates world, what would it be and why?..

I would make myself the supreme dictator of NS!!! *evil laugh* - the serious answer would be to eliminate adspam.
SPOT would like to thank Candidate Dyr Nasad for taking the time to be interviewed and provide the electorate of The South Pacific with further insight into their campaign...

TSP Election PM Candidate Interview - Sedge

Candidate Interview - Sedge
Running for the position of Prime Minister...

To enable complete impartiality, SPOT will provide all of the candidates with the same questions and provide their responses in the order in which they declared their intention to run for office...

SPOT: Please take a moment to introduce yourself to the members of The South Pacific…
I'm Sedge, probably best known for my involvement in the Founderless Regions Alliance. I've also been quite prominent in the WA Security Council recently, passing liberation resolutions for Feudal Japan and Free Thought.
SPOT: What are your motivations in running for office?..

Well I hate seeing inactive regions. Most of my time in NationStates has been spent helping other regions - either by defending, or by trying to build them up. I think The South Pacific has great potential to be active and powerful again, and I think that I can help us fulfil that potential.
SPOT: What is your opinion on the current and historical performance of the Security and Intelligence Ministry?..

Well it doesn't seem to have really performed. As of yet, no-one is running for the position, which is disappointing. Lots of people joining NationStates go looking for a 'war' setting - and invading/defending is what we have. It'd be great to get involved in that, as it gets people active. The whole intrigue surrounding intel work is something we're also missing at the moment.
SPOT: Are there any new initiatives that differentiate your campaign from your fellow candidates?..

Well no-one else is running for the position, unfortunately. Only Todd has currently given us any indication of his plans - and really, I agree with them. I'd like to see TSP 'extending outwards' too.
SPOT: And finally, if you could change anything in The South Pacific/Nationstates world, what would it be and why?..

Just one thing? sad.gif

I guess I'd probably change what happens when new nations join NationStates. I don't really know how I'd change things, but new nations just don't seem to get much help. They get bombarded with recruitment telegrams - if they're lucky they'll find an active region, and get help from some friendly people. If they don't, they'll probably just give up on NationStates without ever truly realising what its like. I'd like to see new nations get some more advice, maybe in the welcome telegram - which reminds me, I'd love to see the telegram system overhauled...

SPOT would like to thank Candidate Sedge for taking the time to be interviewed and provide the electorate of The South Pacific with further insight into their campaign...

TSP Election MoR Candidate Interview - Todd McCloud

Candidate Interview - Todd McCloud
Running for the position of Minister of the Region...

To enable complete impartiality, SPOT will provide all of the candidates with the same questions and provide their responses in the order in which they declared their intention to run for office...

SPOT: Please take a moment to introduce yourself to the members of The South Pacific…

I am Todd McCloud, (former) delegate of The East Pacific and NS renaissance man extraordinaire, lol. Basically, I've done a lot of things in the game and always love the opportunity to do more.

SPOT: What are your motivations in running for office?..

I really believe I can make an impact with the Ministry of the Region. To me, it seems like a very proactive position, one that can assist the region better than a judge (which was my prior position in the region). It's a position I would like to remain creative in. Over in The East Pacific, I was known for creativity and bringing people into the region. While I'm not perfect, I believe I do a good job with that. It would be nice to be able to extend that work to The South Pacific as well.

SPOT: What is your opinion on the current and historical performance of the Security and Intelligence Ministry?..

Personally, I believe it did a good job during its tenure, especially during the three years of Fudge's reign. While I only got to see the tail-end of the efforts, as I was elected to a cabinet position, I believe it worked well for the time being. However, as members became inactive, the system began to display noticeable cracks. At one point, we had two nations within 20 spots of the delegacy. Before the booting occurred, I believe one was within five of the delegate's count. This was a much-needed wake up call, and will be a challenge for the new regime: can we mimic the successes of the past, but remain vigilant and alert enough to maintain the security of the region? I trust the people in this region, and fully expect that this new blood in the cabinet will increase our security in full.

SPOT: Are there any new initiatives that differentiate your campaign from your fellow candidates?..

Well, perhaps experience with feeder politics. Also, I love to think different, and take the route that I believe is right, even though it may not be popular.

SPOT: And finally, if you could change anything in The South Pacific/Nationstates world, what would it be and why?..

Honestly, I would like to see a different system in place to change in and out delegates. One of the most difficult moments of my NS career was deciding not to run in TEP's recent delegate elections, step back, gather my thoughts, and see what I did right and what I should have done better. It is a very sobering experience, but the reality of the matter is a region that has a delegate for a very long time, no matter how good he or she is, can be prone to becoming stale. It's a hard reality, but it's true. Delegate elections, new delegates, etc can and do boost activity and make people excited. I personally would like to see more efforts made toward increasing the frequency of delegate changes in the region, but certainly not a reduction in security. Frankly, we are quite secure: Fudgie remains among the most influence-holding nations in the game - any rogue delegates would be easily removed over a short period of time. All we'd have to do is endorse Fudge, in more or less terms. So yeah, that would be what I would change.

Thank you for the opportunity!
