SPFA 4 Matchday 1

Season starts with a bang...Tomcats & Islanders set the early pace...Falkonkats & Crusaders prop up the rest...

SPFA Season 4 got underway on Monday, after much anticipation and fevered preparations by the head coaches and players...The season, which had initially been planned to run until February next year, could now be shortened by playing two games per week...Following a number of comments and suggestions from league participants, the SPFA Management Team are currently looking to modify the fixture scheduling to accomodate this and an announcement will be made when everything is in place to support it...

Pool 4.1
There were wins for Soigacan Tomcats, DVD United, Badgers United, Herculeum Lightning, Ice Gunners and Chodean Kal Wave Runners...An excellent start for these teams who will be looking to maintain their winning start for Matchday 2...In the battle of the top two placed teams of Season 3, Herculeum won through, beating arch rivals Myrulesia Athletic...In what increasingly has become something of a grudge match the two sides were at each others throats from the opening whistle, with tackles flying in and the match referee having to flourish 4 yellow cards within the first 10 minutes...The game swang to and fro with each side taking the lead, but with just 5 minutes remaining it was the Lightning that snatched the 3 points...

The Falkonkats will need to improve markedly upon their inadequate defensive performance...3 goals conceded with none scored is far from the perfect start they had envisaged...In fact being the only team not to score in pool 4.1 has seen the Falkonkats head coach dip into the transfer market to bolster the now all too obvious deficiencies in his attacking line...The fixtures now come thick and fast with a couple of highlights for Matchday 2 being Tomcats v Badgers (the fur will fly in that one for sure) and the Crawdads v DVD United...

Pool 4.2
With wins for The Clockwork islanders, Wegason Dragons, Durass Snipers, The Mighty Arkanians and EPC Minions...Carbanousa Crusaders were taken apart by the potent attackers of the Islanders...6 goals conceded without reply saw the most inept defensive performance of the opening fixtures...The Crusaders have their work cut out if they are bounce back from such a humiliating defeat...TheMapleLeaf United and Posulian Puffins conceded 6 also, but in games that were far more competitive...The Koalas, Warriors, Springers and Ostriches played out the only two drawn matches...

Surely the match of the next round is Wegason Dragons v The Clockwork Islanders...Somethings gotta give in that one...

Join us for the next update on Monday 4th September...
