It's a 'YES' vote

Assembly Vote 'Yes' to Disclosure of Classified Material...

The vote, which closed late last night, just made the required quorum, attracting 15 votes in total, 1 more than the required 14...Only 2 of those votes were not in favour...

We wait to see how this law will work in practice, and SPOT will bring you the details of the first requests to hit the Prime Minister's Office...

Will this lead to a more open style of government?..If you have any thoughts or comments you wish to share then please do so...

Disclosure Bill Needs Support

Slow Last Lap for Disclosure Bill...

With only 2 days left for members of The South Pacific to vote on the 6 Month Disclosure Bill, it is still considerably below the level needed for it to be accepted into Law...The minimum number of votes required is a quorum of 14, (it currently has 9) with at least 60% being in favour...

Kloister, the Prime Minister has been vocal in his attempts to encourage all members to cast their vote...

Disclosure Rule Up For Vote

Assembly to vote on the declassification of government material...

Members of The South Pacific are being asked to cast their votes regarding a law, which has been under discussion for the past week, to release historical government information into the public domain...

In order for the bill to pass into law, a quorum of 14 votes is required with a minimum of 60% in favour of the bill...

Exit polls are indicating that the bill has a good chance of success, but it is anticipated that Cabinet will not rest on their laurels and will be out canvassing for the members to exercise their democratic rights and attend the Assembly to cast their ballot...

Voting is scheduled to run from today, Wednesday 17th October until Wednesday 24th October...

Classified Material Up For Grabs

Cabinet chit-chat could become public knowledge...

In an unprecedented move, a draft bill has been placed before The South Pacific Assembly that could allow for the declassification of previously classified information...

Provisionally entitled the '6 Month Disclosure Rule', it aims to further enhance the communication between government and the general membership...Something that has been on the agenda of both Tsrill, as former Cabinet Minister and current PM, Kloister...

Discussions to formulate this draft bill have been ongoing for several weeks now within the Assembly and over the coming week it will become clear if this has any chance of making it into the official rules of the Region...

For your chance to contribute to the discussion, head over to The South Pacific forum Assembly now...

Deputy PM Appointed

Region's No.2 Appointed...

The appointment of Somniloquence as Deputy Prime Minister of The South Pacific has been met with warmness and cuddles from the membership...

A relative newcomer to the region, joining on 6th February 2007, Somni has quickly ingratiated themselves into the intelligence and security fraternity of the region, gaining many plaudits from those 'in the know'...This move into the public face of Government will certainly present some challenges, but everything that SPOT has heard so far leads us to believe that Somni has all of the attributes to be a credit to themselves and TSP...

The Prime Minister had a couple of words to say as he made the announcement...

"So it was left to me to search the region for someone with the 'right stuff'...Somni would appear to have it in abundance...And it is great to have them on-board..."

In related news...The PM's Office have vehemently denied any truth behind allegations that ministerial funds are being diverted into 'Caribbean Holiday slush funds'...
